This is the evolution of the Rheinmetall calculating machines, the name changing to Soemtron during the DDR era. The use of a separate ten-key keypad for entering the multiplier dates back to their first four-function machines back in the 1930s. This machine has similar capabilities to the Rheinmetall SAR-IIc, differing primarily in the redesigned outer housing. Despite the blocky appearance, the housing is made of several large die castings. The carriage cover is stamped sheetmetal, and is screwed over what appears to be an older model carriage. (Waize)
